PROGAMINGIQ The global chip shortage will have an impact on Samsung. According to the latest reports, this issue will affect smartphone operations until the second half of 2022.
This is based on a report by The Elec citing several sources. The issue was discussed by the boss of Samsung Mobile, TM Roh who discussed with senior executives and executives of more than 30 major component suppliers on November 10, 2021, quoted Thursday (9/12/2021).
The source said last month's meeting discussed business plans for next year. The executives who attended also evaluated Samsung's smartphone business strategy based on global economic conditions and next year's industry trends.
The Elec quoted the source as adding that discussions were also discussing the global chip shortage.
Samsung's smartphone production was affected this year due to a shortage of application processors (AP). This makes the company unable to produce as many smartphones as desired.
It seems that this problem will continue until 2022, said Samsung Mobile. The company's business division said supplies of AP and RF chips remained tight through the second half of next year.
They also mentioned the key point to meet this year's business target is securing the supply of chips.
Another problem that has to be faced is the lack of production capacity by the foundry companies, which contract the makers of the chips designed. Meanwhile, fable companies, which are those that design chips but do not manufacture them, will focus on providing high-margin products.
